Early April 2014 I wanted to head out and do the Spearhead Traverse, but with only 1 good weather day, I decided to head up and see if I could bag the Aussie coulior on Joffre Peak. The weather was great, but my plans would change as the day went on

I was quickly skinning up the cerise creek summer trail (which was still covered in snow). It was a late start, about 7am. Last time Steve and I where up here it was still dark and much earlier.

after about 1-1.5hrs I arrived at Kieths Hut. From outside I could hear barking and when I got inside I met a couple from whistler and their dog, a nice surprise.

At the hut I quickly took care of blisters with some duct tape. It worked very well and they didn't hurt from here on

With temps quickly climbing, I got out of the hut and headed up towards Joffre.

just after leaving the moraine and gaining the anniversary glacier proper, I realized that the temperature was way to warm to continue much further alone.

signs of recent avalanches were everywhere. I has boot packing in my ski boots and sinking up to calf deep warm slushy snow. I knew that I wasn't going to go any further up, even though the matter/joffre col was only about 1hr away. But it was steep climbing up to that point and I wanted to make it home for the night.

Surprisingly not as heavy as I thought they would be to hike in, but way to heavy on a hot spring day in slush

So I decided to ski back to the hut and figure out what to do. On the way back I found the skiing to be awesome and turned my attention to skiing the rest of the day. I had a quick snack and headed out for a couple hours of skinning and skiing.

I skied from the top left of the ridge to the bottom centre of the picture. Perfect turns on perfect corn snow.

I made some turns from bottom centre to middle right of the pic. I was unsure where it would take me, but I was pleasantly surprised that it opened up to wide open bowls. I just love it here

This is just one of the open bowls you can ski, great skiing. It was hero snow.
